Located on Interstate 80, Princeton, Illinois is approximately 2 hours southwest of the Chicago Loop, 1 hour north of Peoria, and 1 hour east of the Iowa Quad Cities. Positioned at the heart of Bureau County, Princeton is the county seat and is an active and growing community of about 8,000. The lifestyle and pace is quiet and relaxing and you won’t find more gracious and friendly people anywhere.
Festival 56 was founded in 2004 as a partnership between Princeton Theatre Group and The November Ten, a New York-based theatre company. Perhaps the greatest feather in the festival’s cap is Shakespeare in the Park. Each summer since the very beginning, the festival has presented a fully staged production of one of Shakespeare’s plays in the town square. This production is a gift to the community and is presented free of charge all summer long.
